My third only trip abroad on a project for IKEA was to Thailand . If you haven’t been, you should go — it’s perhaps the most beautiful country I’ve visited. Along with white sandy beaches, soaring temples and bustling street markets, Thailand is full of inspirational design.

If you wanted to re create the ‘Thai’ look, start by taking a cue from the east and splurge on an elaborate ceiling design, with added coving painted in metallic colours.

Introduce some teak furniture .Wood furniture is everywhere on Thai homes, especially teak in simple designs that would suit a more modern home — even brought in for indoor use.

Leading up to and around the houses are stone walkways flanked by lily pads, Perhaps not conducive to English winters, but beautiful nonetheless. I also loved the hanging planters made from slats of wood — definitely something you could try indoors or out. Open-air hotel lobbies with water features were everywhere — gorgeous, the intricate gold ceiling at a temple in Bangkok is so inspiring.

Some hotels, have an outdoor shower and the natural stone, surrounding the cubicle, that is left unfinished, and I love how it showed the watermarks along with teal tiles in the shower, it was a stunning combination. Add silver dispensers with bamboo labels, which are so  pretty and complement the style..or brighten up a shower with some ocean-coloured tiles.

Thailand clearly has a more temperate climate, but I love the idea of sliding doors everywhere. Some were woven from bamboo.download
