It is a fact that there are smaller homes from an architectural perspective, being built than a focus on luxurious couples living, but what are the issues for real families when living in smaller spaces? Small Space living in the future, focuses on the detail of small living. Outlining the challenges families face when living in smaller homes, as well as myself, companies such as IKEA are able to identify and to tap into emerging needs and ultimately help homeowners live well within small, shared spaces.
How we accessorise – the kind of ornamentation we apply to our homes. What goes on the limited wall space we have available, what heirlooms do we display or store?
How family treasures sit together in small spaces – and what that means for the way they are displayed.

At JHInteriors we can help with all the solutions surrounding how to live well in a smaller home. With our small space decorating ideas, storage solutions, and smart finds will help you maximize every square foot.
A few tips that we use are; keep the walls and even the ceilings painted in Gray. The upholstery and furnishings are also best in neutral tones. But we sometimes use a less obvious trick to bring cohesion to the rooms. If the ceilings in the different rooms are all different heights and all of these openings and windows and doors are different heights, we would use soffits installed at a uniform eight feet and put in a pocket for curtains, which can make everything look symmetrical.
In the bedroom you can keep the bed low to emphasize the height of the ceiling. And use a smaller headboard.Wall-mounted bedside lighting frees up side tables, however small.

Another tip is hang art in a grid that stretches almost to the ceiling, which makes the room look taller and helps to create visual interest. Any room feels better as soon as the art is hung.  And pocket doors will eliminate the space drain you get from hinged doors.

It’s all about organization and fit: Nothing makes a room feel more uncomfortable than a bad fit.
